An incompetent cook’s rant/joy
I don’t cook. I’m not a cooker, nor a baker. My friend cooks and bakes. Her foods looks amazing on her blog. I’ve tried once or twice a while ago, but my ex always gave it negative critcism and would say something like, “is it edible?”. “Has your mum tried it? Is she still alive?” Encouraging words, right? Personally, I didn’t think anything was wrong with my food. My mother thought it was okay, with improvements and it’ll be good. And whatever mum says, goes, RIGHT?? So with all the feedback I got from my ex about my food, I gave up cooking. I had no patience anymore. Couldn’t be bothered cooking anymore. Waste of time. You don’t like my food, I won’t cook for you.I remember making the ex a Vietnamese dish that my mum taught me; very basic: grilled mince pork, herbs, veggies, noodles, and mixed fish sauce for taste. Then the ex goes and puts in Japanese mayonnaise to “make it taste better”. What the BLAHH?!?! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Japanese mayonnaise. But not only did he ruin the Vietnamese dish, it was offensive! Come onnn!! Appreciate the cuisine as it is. It was already nice. And trust me, I know when my food is tasteless and/or bland. What the BLAHH?! At least try out the dish first, before you add the mayonnaise?? BLAHH!!
So I’ve discovered cooking again. Taking it very slow, though. They’re nothing good. Edible. I’d get feedback, but they’re supportive. And sexy boyfriend wants to eat my cooking. Tells me that food’s “okay” (I think that’s his way of saying that it’s good, or decent - whatever). It makes me want to continue cooking, so I’ll get more nods and ‘okays’ from him.
One thing I’ve found out just recently, is how easy the pancake recipe is. I know I’m slow. But the discovery had me excited. I’ve made 3 batches of pancakes so far. First batch was for my student. Second batch was for sexy boyfriend, but it didn’t fill him up so had to make pasta for lunch - right after brunch. Last batch was for mummy and me. Mummy enjoyed it quite a bit. Har har har har!! :D
